Boyhood Resurrected: Igniting a Revival of Daring and Heroic Boys

It seems like boyhood is dead after a long, slow death of neglect. Our culture’s devaluation of masculinity, boyhood treated as a disease, addiction to screens and more has successfully taken away the few years boys had to be boys; their spirit and drive stifled or extinguished in the hurry to tame them into complacent members of the state machine.

We all want our sons to grow and succeed. But something hasn’t been right in recent decades, the world out there seems bent against our sons. We want to make the space boys need, and give them the time they need to develop. We want wild but noble boys that are on a path to manhood. They are daring, yet heroic. These boys don’t run from all dangers, because they themselves are on journey to become the right kind of dangerous. The kind of dangerous that can protect those they love.

They are wired for wild, and it’s not our job to tame them, but to train them. God’s design for our boys is a perfect one, and it’s time they had more champions in their corner, cheering them on. If they aren’t allowed to play, build, explore and conquer their kingdoms now, then when? There’s dragons to fight, battles to wage, and forts to build. Let’s raise brave boys and resurrect boyhood now.

Readers will:

  • Be reassured with confidence that the “experts” don’t have all the answers, or our boy’s best interests in mind. Our children do not belong to the state and its institutions and systems — they need rescue from them. Simply put, the family is the best answer to boy’s needs.
  • Be empowered to know that their boy’s success is in following how they’re already wired, with wild and noble pursuits in mind that will one day fulfill their masculine callings as protectors and providers. Our boys are NOT broken, and boyhood is not a disease that needs medications and professional management.
  • Learn what essentials boys need to thrive, like letting them take risks and also go on adventures in the backyard building forts and fighting dragons.
  • Be encouraged to forge Heroes in their sons through challenge and good suffering like hard work and service to others, producing Spartan-like mental, emotional, as well as physical strengths.
  • Remind yourself that a strong family is a radical thing today, and that the power of family culture, especially reading together and spending meaningful time together can shape your son’s heart and future like nothing else.

Rescued boys make brave men, and we want to resurrect the boyhoods of old, for our sons to reach their full potential and God’s calling on their lives.

What People Are Saying about Boyhood Resurrected

“If you have boys, know boys, care about boys, please read this fabulous book! And give a copy to everyone you know raising boys in this chaotic cultural moment!”
John Eldredge
Founder, Wild at Heart Ministries
“It’s no secret that boys today face an uphill battle. Rather than helping them channel their masculinity in constructive ways, our culture tells them that masculinity itself is toxic. That’s why I’m thankful that Rebekah Lovell has written this indispensable resource for parents who are looking for ways to help their sons flourish and embrace their God-given design.”
Jim Daly
President – Focus on the Family
“I am deeply concerned about our boys. Young men are growing up in a culture that too-often rejects their gifts, labels them as incurably toxic, and regularly treats them as defective girls. Rebekah Lovell is a strong voice speaking out for the multitude of heroic mothers who have had enough of their sons being stereotyped, vilified, and sidelined. She has a sometimes controversial, often counter-cultural take on a positive vision for us to make a way for our sons to thrive and flourish as boys. We need more moms like her, quietly blessing her own boys and publicly advocating for all our sons.”
S. D. Smith
Author of The Found Boys and The Green Ember Series
“As the leader of a national ministry focused on guiding boys into godly manhood, I know firsthand that boys aren’t defective girls—they are uniquely designed by God for boldness, purpose, and strength. Boyhood Resurrected captures this truth with clarity and conviction.
Rebekah Lovell calls us to remember what culture has forgotten: that boys thrive on adventure, challenge, and meaning. This book is a much-needed rallying cry to honor and fight for the hearts of our sons.
I stand with Rebekah—as a fellow fan of boys and a fellow warrior in their corner.”
Mark Hancock
CEO, Trail Life USA
“This book is an absolute must read for anyone interested in answering the question:”What’s going on with men?” Because the sad truth is, it started when they were boys. Thank God someone not only properly identified the problem, but actually gives parents ideas, solutions and most of all HOPE for raising their boys in a world that has abandoned them. Saving our future means recapturing the wonder and challenges of boyhood, and Rebekah lays it out beautifully in this book.”

Boyhood Resurrected is a tender and timely reminder that the rough-and-tumble world of boys is not a problem to fix, but a gift to nurture. With insight and grace, Rebekah Lovell paints a vision of boyhood full of purpose, strength, and sacred adventure. These pages will stir a mother’s heart and renew her courage to raise sons with grit, joy, and intention. It’s a needed call to honor what boyhood truly is—and what it’s meant to become.”

“With wisdom and heart, Rebekah Lovell reminds us that boyhood is not something to tame, but something to protect, nurture, and set free. Her voice is a steady hand for parents navigating a noisy world, as she revives in us a vision for raising boys that is brave, wild, and wholly alive.”
